General Surgery

Fifteen million people in the U.S. undergo surgery annually. There are many reasons to have surgery. Certain procedures can relieve or prevent pain- while others can reduce a symptom of a problem or improve body function.

Biopsies, which involve removing a piece of tissue to examine under a microscope, are performed to find problems. Some surgeries, like heart surgery, can save your life.

There have been many advances in surgery recently. It was not that long ago that a majority, if not all procedures used a scalpel. Today, many surgical procedures are done with lasers. Procedures that once needed large incisions can now be performed using much smaller incisions.

Any surgery carries the risk of complications, including infection, too much bleeding, reaction to anesthesia, or accidental injury. There is almost always some pain associated with surgery.

Here at Franciscan Physicians Hospital, our highly trained, caring surgical staff take great pride in ensuring that your stay with us will be as comfortable as possible - and that your road to recovery will be favorable.
