This procedure is an evolution of the cardiopulmonary bypass surgery that forgoes the use of artificial pumps during the procedure. Beating-heart surgery as the name implies, allows the heart to beat almost still, during the entire procedure.
Although there are always risks of complications related to any surgery, researchers’ studies show that this procedure results in fewer post-operative complications.
